frog position

Is it true that dogs or puppies that lie in a frog position, have good hips or is it just a saying?

I would imagine that froggy style is actually bad for their hips.. so it would make more sense the dog has bad hips. That position has to be hard on their hips.

Either way.. i think it's just a saying.

I think its just a saying too. My Dog used to ALWAYS lay in the froggy position and now he has arthritis in his lower back/hip area so I think its just a saying hun.

I heard that dogs that do "frog legs" are more likely to have a luxating patella...

Types of breeds

I have heard that it is a breed type thing. Certain breeds sit like that. My lhasa does.

Yes, I've heard it is more likely to be breed specific. It sure is cute when they do it. Cali did it alot when she was a puppy, but not so much anymore.

Quite a lot of dogs like the frog position. I would think that they do need to have healthy hips to adopt that position and considering that my cavaliers all do it and I have had them hip tested and their hips are perfect then that is my belief, lol. None of my cavaliers have luxating patellas and dogs with that problem don't tend to sit like a frog, they find that uncomfortable; my chihuahua, Cleo, had luxating patellas and not once did she ever sit like a frog. My aussie shepherd, rough collie and border collie also occasionally adopt that position.

I tend to believe that dogs with hip problems would find the frog position quite uncomfortable, jmo.

My parents bred Alaskan Malamutes, a breed known for hip displasia. I remember them saying that a dog with hip displasia wouldn't be able to lay that way.

This may be a silly question, but what is the frog position?
is it where they lay with their back legs outstretched? Benny does it all the time. I've been worried about him laying like this!
Thanks!

Yes, that is what it is.

My 15 year old Rat Terrier does it all the time and then he will pull himself across the floor with his front legs. He is the one that taught my youngest how to crawl!
