Preventing Accidents?

For the most part,Anka's adjustment to her new home (ours) is going well. Today, I took her to PetCo, and over to my sister's house so she and her boyfriend (and their dog, Emmitt) could meet her. She had an "accident" indoors at both places. How can I teach her that peeing is only allowed outside? (She doesn't go inside of our house at all.) Should I write this off as her just being over-excited, or should I be concerned?

How long was she inside? I wouldn't worry too much about it. She will learn.

She was only inside for about an hour, but I think it had been a couple of hours since she last "went".

Then it's to be expected. Many dogs don't go right away outside if they are in new or strange surroundings. That is why we teach the "cue" word like "go pee" so they will even if they don't really need to at that exact moment.

Good idea, I think we'll start working on learning "go pee" right away!

sorry I changed my spelling to yours, you say Spay we say Spey.
Sometimes an entire female will actually mark territory the same as a male, but that is not the case here either.
I would put it down to excitement and really a true accident. Next time you go for a visit, just make sure you put her out 5 or 10 mins after the intital hello, she will be sure to go. Especially if the other dog has a favourite spot outside, she will sniff it out and got on the same spot.

I love that Dax will go pee on command. It helped train Ariel plus has saved us many a cold trips outside. She goes when I'm ready to take her which is very nice when we went camping or long car rides. We would stop to fill up & empty and she knew exactly what we wanted her to do. It's also so easy.. Just say it while they are going & verbally praise.
