Stinky fish smell?
We took Chloe to a street fair today and cute as she is - she attracted a lot of attention. People couldnt resist cooing to her and patting her head. Problem is - (this hasnt happened before and shes been petted a looot) now the top of her head has an odd stinky fishlike smell. Its not her ears, nor her nose or mouth. Just the area where people petted her-on the top of her head. I wiped her head down with water - wiped it with a baby wipe...it doesnt really go away. Does anyone have any idea what the smell could be? I'm wondering if someone used dirty hands after eating (since this was a street fair) to pet her ...or is this a problem I should be looking out for. Her coat is shiny and glossy - so I'm a bit puzzled. Also -any suggestions to get rid of the stink would be great.

It's just where they pet her? Sounds like dirty hands. Wet a wash cloth and add a little baking soda to the water (about 1 tablespoon to a sink full). Don't be afraid to rub a little

Thanks...phew that was odd....wouldn't it be funny if I demanded a hand inspection before someone petted my puppy? The baking soda seems to have neutralized it somewhat...this evening she gets another rubdown.

Smetha not funny to ask at all, actually I demand it if people want to touch my puppies, also if they come in with street shoes...guess what, they have to remove them before they are allowed in my yard.
Yep I get funny looks to start with, but I just say, you wanna look at the pups or not. Parvo could wipe out the lot in 24 hours. |

Oh...is she still in danger of getting parvo? I was very particular till she got her 16 week shots...if shes still in danger I have no qualms in getting people to even take baths before touching her. Hope I havent exposed her to anything by taking her to the fair - she was 18 weeks.

Nope she should be fine. My pups here when people want to look at them are anything from hours old to the 8-10 weeks. But I still advise people when they take them not to put them down or let anyone touch till at least 2 weeks after the final shots.
It's funny you know, I am just super aware of it, I have my street shoes and they are kept in a basket out front. As soon as I get back from the street, I change shoes, clothes and wash my hands...just super cautious is all. And I don't even have pups at the moment. lol. |

Thanks for the info - Parvo isnt a known disease in India. First time I heard of it was in the US....so I'm not really clear about it. Shes upto date on all shots now including rabies and lyme disease.
