What exactly happens when water gets into the ears of our dogs while bathing? My helper accidentally soaped the insides of my pups ears and rinsed it off in the process. I dont know if i should get alarmed about this....all i know and have heard is that its bad to wet their ears. Could someone give me some insights on this. Thanks!

I think that if you are sure to dry the insides well (but, obviously, don't put anything in there too far or you can damage the ear drum....) it should be okay. My pups ears get wet all the time while she is swimmming. We clean them regularly with OtiCalm, though, and that seems to prevent infection...

It's nothing to become overly alarmed about. Many dogs will stick their heads under water when swimming but water can lead to infections, infestations and especially fungal infections.

Best advise is to dry the ear with a towel - til the dog's head gently - don't go too deep. That is usually enough.

Watch for constant head shaking, ear scratching, other general signs of infections. If none of those are occuring - life is good. If they develop - consult your vet who can recommend agents to dry out the ear.
