Dog Rescue

I am thinking that after I have my 4 years of college done (3 more to go ) I want to open a no-kill dog rescue shelter. I am completely serious about this. My other dream is to go into the FBI which might very well not work out. And if it doesn;t the only other thing I want to do is open the no-kill shelter. Any one have any ideas on how to prepare for it? What are the laws, rules etc. What degrees might help? I am majoring in psychology and sociology and minoring in German. So unless I get german speaking dogs I will need help. lol. Of course I wouldn;t do this alone, but any insight might help. Thank You

I would first get involved with an already established reputable rescue.

I think opening a no kill shelter would be great but its not a job. Shelters need to provide money to care for animals. They would run best by volunteers. You will still need a job to provide for yourself(or marry someone rich )

Even if you did have the money, getting involved with a rescue that is already established, well known, and well ran is an invaluable opportunity. You will get to do, experience, and learn about things you might not be able to on your own with people who are supportive and knowledgeable.

If you're serious about a no kill shelter/rescue I would definately take some business and marketing classes. I know there were business law classes - that one is a must for somebody that plans on opening a business. Even non-profit organizations are businesses, they just operate a little different.

Good luck!
