maltese problem

how to clean the tear stain in maltese because if it's not clean,it will make a stinky smell. How many times in a month that we shuold clean the ear?We are afraid to clean it because she will be angry and we thought it maybe danger if we use a cotton bud to clean it it will make the ear become hurt.We always bring her to the saloon every 3 months. Now she like to stratching her ear made the skin near the ear and in the ear become a wound so much and the ear is so smelly,we afraid that it will made an infection to the ear. Thanks

Take her to the vet, for both. Neither ears, nor eyes should smell.

Find out the root of the tear stain. (Smoke in the air? Food allergy?)

You don't need cotton buds/q-tips/swabs to clean her ears. All you need is a simple cotton ball or even a tissue would work with some ear cleansing solution. You need to clean her ears in this manner once a week. However, like Moo said, ears and eyes that smell bad need to go to the vet. Scratching her ears is one of the signs of infection, the stink is a major sign. Take her to the vet right away.

mymaltese is on a distinguished road
maltese ears

I worked with a groomer for awhile, and the best way I've found to get the hair out of the ears is to take a small squirt bottle and put talcum powder in it and put a small amount into the dogs ears and massage it around, the powder loosens the hair in the falical and makes removing it much easier.
also, the staining is easily taken care of by weekly baths with joy dishwashing liquid. (the lemon in it takes care of the staining.) Just be careful around the eyes of course.
My malti is beautiful and it isn't hard to keep him that way with regular grooming. (we keep him cut in a puppy cut tho)
I hope I've helped some of you guys. I didn't know any of this until I worked at a groomers so, I figured I'm not the only one who didn't know!
