Worst dumpage BREED continues.

So now the story continues. The statistics are there, something needs to be done about it.
Australians don't sit on their bums and do nothing. We are a very activist bunch here.

Some of the things in place:

In school Responsible Pet Ownership programs.
Registration of all Cats and Dogs.
3 day courses before being able to breed Registered Purebred Dogs within the club breed, and registering the litter as PureBreds.
24 hour free phone call to dob in a negected animal. (any animal)
Stiff penalties for abusing an animal...jail sentence a norm as well as fine and banning from owning a pet.
Banning from breeding certain breeds. (Maltese looks like the next on the list)
No one can own more than 2 dogs or 2 cats without a permit. heavy fine in place already. Council officers do door knock checks to see the animals.

Things before parliament:
No dog shall be bred unless the breeder has a licence and the dogs are registered with a breed club. (not just council or shire)
All other dogs or cats must be sterilized.

Mentioning the Maltese, a follow up is going to be done on this breed, through kennel control, in regards to the breeders, where they are heading with this and the obvious inherited bad temperament of the breed. As Don Burke said in his program....Don't buy this dog, you are adding to the problem...let the breeders know.

That's great , Ellierat , sounds like you guys in Austrailia are well on the way to helping solve some of the animal abuse/overpopulation problems . Definately ahead of the US - could ya rub some of those off on us , please ?
