My 5 month old pit bull swallowed the string/rope from the hood of a sweatshirt!!! I saw him chewing on it, turned my back for a second, then went to get it away from him and it was gone. I looked around and did not see it any where so I'm pretty sure he swallowed it. This was about 2pm on Sunday, he had 2 bowel movements lastnight after that, then before bed I gave him some vegatable oil, hoping it would make him go also. My fiance just called and said he went like 5 diff. times already this morning ( iguess the oil worked) but no rope. I know it could get wrapped around his intestines and could be deadly, but how will I know?? and what should I do in the meantime???

Call your vet. They should be able to tell you how long you should wait to see if he passes it on his own or if they want to see him right away. Good luck!

The things I have found in my dogs poops is incredible, from string, to balloons (kids) no matter how many times I tell them, pips from fruit, feathers, grass etc.
This can come out 2-3 days later, after consumption, so long as your dog is still eating and drinking and showing no obvious signs of discomfort all should be o.k., but look for the rope and if not passed after 3 days I would contact your vets, they can xray, and ultrasound to find it.
