I made the horrible mistake of waiting too long to get Dex's nails trimmed, so one seems to have been bent! That can't be good. I am not sure what to do except call the vet, but until then, is there anything I should do for him. Wrap it up and such? It seems to be bent out, like a hook. I'm not exactly sure what happened, perhaps he caught it on something. Despite how ugly it looks, it doesn't seem to be causing him much pain. Still, something should be done. Any advice you have would be great.

Being the woss I am about causing my dogs pain - I'd let the vet do it under a local.
But you could probably keep trimming it a little more every week til it's back in shape. Do you have any pictures of it? |

Check the sticky in the Grooming Forum on nails. It shows pics of the normal nail, it may give you an idea on trimming it back a bit if you want to.
So long as it is not bleeding, or causing pain, you should be able to trim enough off to make it more comfortable. |

Well, I could have done that, but as I saw at the vet, the nail was bent way back almost to where the nail starts, so Dex stayed overnight at the vet and he trimmed the whole nail off. We picked him up the next day and he was as happy as can be! The report said that he was walking on it fine and there was no bleeding. So I guess that's good. It will take a very, very long time for that nail to grow back though
