Unhappy Milk Fever

Hi i would like to know if dogs can get milk fever just like cows? I have a female that had a litter of puppies 3 1/2weeks ago. She stoped nursing so now i have taken over feeding them puppy chow. The Bitch isnt active like she has been she wont eat she will drink a little but not alot. She wont play ect..... Shes just not herself for the last two days. Prior to that she was just fine. Is she depressed?

If this dog typically has a good appetite and attitude, I would be concerned. I would take her to your vet to see if perhaps she does have some type of a low grade infection. Take her temp on your own to see if she is showing a fever.

She tried to bite you? Is she your own dog and has she ever tried to bite you before? That is not a good sign. She may be in pain. If you can't take her temp, please take her to your vet tomorrow and have them check her out.

Yes she is my own dog had her since 12weeks old. No she has never tried to bite me before. Im kinda scared. Hope it dont cost an arm and a leg to take her in. I mean there is no price on her but just dont have the money right now.

I hope it is not something serious for her sake. Breeding a litter means you have to plan for medical expenses. Right now your bitch is at her weakest and needs you to take proper care of her. She is depending on you

I agree with this. When breeding you (unforutenetly) have to plan for the worst. I would atleast call a vet to see what they have to say.

I will call the vet first thing in the morning if nothing changes. I figured she was just depressed cuz we are weaning the puppies right now since she wont nurse.

Typically a bitch would be slowly wanting to be away from the pups at this point. They would be slowly getting back to their single life..if you want to call it that. The fact she won't eat and tried to bite you are both very bad signs. Pain will cause an otherwise friendly dog to bite its beloved owner. A vet visit is definitely a good plan without fail.
