Jake has dry skin

I have tried everything thus far, oatmeal shampoos, hypoallergenic. He has allergies to fresh cut grass- he breaks out in hives and itches all over- I have pills for that. He is prone to dermatitis in his feet- I have pills and a foot scrub solution for that. His chin seems to be a bit pink and he is always trying to rub it on the carpet once in a while itching it. But the dry flaky skin Ugh it's kind of embarrassing when someone scratches your dogs back and he has dandruff, are eggs in his food OK? Because they seem to help. By the Way I only bath him like once every 4-6 weeks, I don't want to rid him of his natural oils, I know that if you bath too often that can contribute to dry itchy skin. I have heard about boxers having a skin reaction to their food bowls bacteria getting on their chin and flews and causing irritation? I wonder if I need to switch from the Heavy Stoneware to Stainless maybe?? But I don't know if I can find stainless to fit in his custom made Oak dog bowl holder/elevator.

What kind of food do you feed him? There may be some food allergies that are triggering all the others.

Have you spoken to your vet about the issue?

This time of year seems to wreak havoc on some Boxers coats - I too would ask what hes eating, and I would recommend an oil supplement.

We use "Dream Coat" which is amazing stuff - reasonable, and it absolutely works. (Made by ''Halo')

I would give some salmon oil (We give our crew Grizzly Salmon Oil) along with Vitamin E.

Also.. the food may be doing it? What food are you feeding?

nutro natural choice was one that I tried, he didn't like Iams or Eukanuba and when comparing ingredients I found that Nutro had the better deal vitamin, protein, fat & price wise. At least thats how I interpreted it I could be wrong on how i read the ingredients considering I am usually highly distracted at the store with a 2 yearold I can't keep seated in the cart. I have tried alot of dog foods some he won't eat and some of them upset his stomach so terribly and gave him intestinal troubles. there aren't too many more dog foods out there that I haven't tried. But the Nutro Natural Choice seems to do better by him digestive wise. I just need to figure out a winning combo and there is SO much out there and so many false labels on packaging anymore, it makes it difficult when you have an animal thats not an easy keeper.

My APBT puppy Riddle used to have this exact problem. Grass caused hives, she was flaky and itchy all the time, etc. I started bathing her twice a week in Bark 2 Basics Skin Remedy shampoo, followed with an oatmeal conditioner. Contrary to popular belief, frequent bathing will not dry out the skin as long as you're using a good quality shampoo- Riddle is proof. If I bathe her less than 2x a week she breaks out in her itching and flakiness again, so 2x a week it is.

I also added Flaxseed oil and vitamin E to her diet daily.

Where do I get these oils to put in his feed? Would somewhere like a livestock supply store carry them, like PBS or a health food store natural pharmacy?

I get Riddle's flaxseed and vitamin e from the health section at Fred Meyer's, lol. Make sure to read the label on the Vitamin E and get D-Alpha tocopherol, NOT mixed tocopherols. D-Alpha is the all-natural one.

I buy flaxseed, wheat germ oil and fish oil from the feed store for horses, they carry a lot of stuff useful for dogs. I would certainly be thinking some kind of allergy. Maybe your vet can take some skin scrapings to check them out.
