Spencer Update

I wrote in a while back regarding a new Basset Hound that we recently acquired. He had runny eyes and very long nails and a bit of a smell but was just soo cute. Well a few baths later and I found something that really works for him and does not hurt his sensitive skin. Citrishine shampoo for people. Works better without the irritation I was getting from dog shampoo. He lets us clean his ears better in a bath too. His nails were getting there without any blood in the cuts until he hurt a foot and I let it heal before continuing with the frequent nail trims. Not quiet back to square one .. almost though. This little Basset has really become a welcome addition to the family. I think we are making progress. His nails are dry and brittle though and I will only cut a little off each time and then file them. His coat is now shiny though and he has a better weight than when we go him. Overall he looks good!

That's great! Sounds like you are doing a terrific job taking care of him. One of my dogs has dry nails too, I will occasionally rub some human hand and nail lotion on them to moisturize them a bit. Sometimes it helps with the clipping, it also makes them less likely to get chipped in everyday activities.
