I need to help my dog gain weight

I have a feeling that Bella is very under weight for her age, she is about a year old if not a touch over, I need to get her in the vet soon for more shots however I have not gotten her in yet. She is a very nice dog, very submissive to me and the other dogs. I am afraid she is a pushover to the other dogs at feeding time ESPECIALLY Lita who wants to scarf everyones food. Bella just dont seem to have a rear THRIVE to eat even when pulled aside and feed by herself. I have tried a little water to soften the food, some peanut butter in the food I just have not givin in to feeding her wet food. I dont know if maybe she dont like bitting on the hard food or other things..

either way here is a recent pic of here IMO u can feel and see her hip bones and she is not "meaty" at all I am just thinking she may be under weight.. do u guys agree?

Dave

She's slender but not terribly thin. Kota was the same way at a year. Her hip bones stuck out and I could see ribs but they wouldn't really show up in a picture. I switched to a better food and she gained some pounds. What food do you feed her currently?

Yes, she could use some weight distributed on her body, but I have seen worse. I would make sure she is worm free, negative on heart worms also.
Then I would feed her small amounts 3 to 4 times a day of a top kibble, feed her alone and sit down and make sure she eats most of what your total daily amount will be for her. You might want to add a tad bit of meaty canned food to intice her to eat more readily. Good luck and after she starts to eat, post some new photos of her weight gain. she a real pretty dog.

I have two words for you: Satin Balls

Quote:
SATIN BALLS This recipe is one for putting weight on an animal quickly, as some use it for putting a couple extra pounds on a show animal prior to the big day, or an animal that may have been ill and needs a weight gain program. It has also been reported that this recipe will help with some forms of hair loss, such as when your dog(s) blow their coat, to keep the coat healthy and shiny. This recipe is entended to be fed raw.
10# hamburger meat
1 jar wheat germ
1 lg box of oatmeal (uncooked)
1 1/4 Cup vegetable oil
10 eggs
10 sm pkgs unflavored gelatin
1 1/4 Cup unflavored molasses
A pinch of salt
1 lg box Total cereal (2lb's)
(You may also add a pinch of garlic powder to add flavor)

Mix all ingredients together well, much like a meatloaf....put into separate freezer bags and freeze, thawing out as needed. It puts weight on in a very short time, not to mention the gloss in their coat. You can use it every day when they have a show to do and it does not produce diarrhea. It can be fed alone or with kibble.
