can a neuter effect coat/skin

I am just curious as to if a neuter can effect a dogs coat and skin, I only ask because Shippo who has always had excellent skin and coat, now has a good deal of flaking, and a lot of shedding. He was neutered about 2 months ago, and another weird thing is the fur that was shaved hasn't really started growing back.

I don't know about males but I know it can affect female's coats. The effect depends on the individual dog, some coats get dry and brittle, others get thin and whispy, for some nothing happens at all. I guess it can affect males in the same way.

Have you tried giving some evening primrose oil? That is what my vet recommended to get Poppy's coat condition back.

Yes, is causes a change in coat. Mostly for the worse, Cockers, Schnauzers, and Yorkies seem to be effected the most, in my own experience. Their coats do not tend to grow back as thick and nice as before.

What breed of dog is Shippo?

He's a Pembroke Corgi. He's always had an awesome coat, but here recently I noticed a lot of his undercoat showing so I started brushing him and fur just came out, in no time I had a huge pile of fur, and you could see the flakes from his skin. Now don't get me wrong he's not going bald but he has never shed like that before.

There could also be an underlying medical condition affecting his coat. Dax goes thru phases. Her thyroid condition affects her coat and she get dry flaky skin.

Changes in diet, weather can also affect thier coats.

Thanks Dax, I did change there food to the Nutro Ultra from the natural, but I would think a better food wouldn't affect him negatively that way would it?

I think it would depend on fat (type of fat) content. It might be a temporary change as he adjusts.
