Very touching story Dane/Boxer

I came across this dog and his story. This is the shelter I got Sampson from and looking at the timeframe may have even been there when we went to get Sampson.

Onrey - ADOPTED!
Dog

this pet

Boxer,Great Dane Mix
Size: Large
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
ID

Notes: Dogs come….dogs go…I wonder when will it be my turn? I’m trying to be patient as the nice ladies who take care of me here tell me my day will come, my new family just hasn’t found me yet…but when? The other dogs all look so excited and happy to leave with their new families. I want a family too! I’ve been here longer than any of the other dogs…my name in Onrey. I’m a 5 1/2 year old Boxer/Dane mix. Poor Onrey - this sweet boy has been with us for 2 years now. He had to have surgery and his front left leg had to be removed. He had come to us with buckshot in his leg and after a year of different med's, this was deemed his only option left at a pain-free life. Onrey may be "marked" special needs, but he doesn't know that! He will now run around the building outside when taken for walks - that's something he wasn't able to do before - he was in too much pain. He is really enjoying the nice weather - he loves to go outside and lay in the grass and have you rub his belly! He walks well on leash, takes treats nicely, and knows how to sit. Onrey's perfect home would be one with no other animals as he would like to be your one and only. UPDATE!! CHRISTMAS COMES EARLY FOR ONREY! On October 22, Onrey was finally adopted!! After 2 1/2 years of calling the shelter "home", Onrey finally really does have a home...and an owner to call his own! After being spoiled rotten on his last day at the shelter (which consisted of a plain hamburger from Burger King, a squeaky toy that he was allowed to pick out himself, and enough treats to last a week to take with him, Onrey was all set to jump into his new owner's car for the long ride back to Minnesota. Of course, when Onrey noticed the nice big fluffly bed in the backseat of the car, he did just that!

That is a great happy ending. Some shelters would of put him down for having them in the shelter so long. It proves that every dog has an owner

Look at that face! I am so happy for him, that was a long time to be at a shelter! Thank goodness someone saw through his disability and made him a member of their family. I'll keep my fingers crossed that everything works out super!

OMG I am so happy that he found a home. If I was closer he would of been home with me. Glad to hear the shelter kept him for that long too.

What a great story. I am glad he found a family. Big dogs can be intimidating and one legged dogs might seem to much care. I think he is adorable.
