Swallowing teeth

OK, silly question coming up. (But hey, I'm curious. )

Is it hazardous for a puppy to swallow the teeth he loses? Wondering because if a bone can perforate his stomach or intestines, I could imagine that a tooth could easily do the same, if not more damage, because they are so sharp.

The vet told us that we should just watch Scooter when he swallowed a tooth... It came through the next day. He seemed fine.. but that's just one experience... I'm sure Ellierat will know better.. She's on here somewhere

It's usually fine. They're little and will pass... Most of them lose and eat their teeth when they're chewing or eating. I did salvage some of mine, because I was staring at him all week when he was losing them because I wanted to keep them. lol

Thing is, teeth are smoother than chewed bones. Chewed/ribbons/splintered bones are rough and have snags.

I know, Moo, I wanted to keep some of his too. I have all of Ripley's puppy teeth, mainly because I plucked most of Ripley's super-loose puppy teeth out because they were hurting him, and he wouldn't chew and loosen them up.

I see what you mean about teeth vs. bones. Most of his teeth are nice and smooth, just sharp as knives at the tip.

Kirby felt no pain, so I went and played some tug when they were really loose... Poor Mr Mouse was pretty bloody. I have about 9 of them I think...

Ripley is a wimp about his mouth it seems. He screamed if he bit down on anything while he was teething.. So I finally got so tired of it I just yanked the loose ones out.
Dakota doesn't feel pain either.. I let him catch the tennis ball for about 20 minutes and the teeth start falling out.

At what age do dogs lose their teeth? DO all dogs lose their teeth? (Sorry if that's a dumb question!)

All dogs lose their teeth, around 5 months-ish.

Well, most dogs loose their teeth. Some dogs, especially toy breeds, retain baby teeth.
Ripley lost his last baby tooth at 10 months of age, it was one of his canines. His adult tooth had grown in beside it and pushed it out of the way, but it was still alive for several more months.

Dakota is 4 months old and I predict that he will lose all of his puppy teeth brefore he hits 5 months.
