Lightbulb Please help me find a German Shepard.

My dad had a German Shepard named Sarge. Sarge was my dad's constant companion and farm dog. He went on trails and gaurded everything. Sarge went off behind one of the horse shelters and died. He picked his spot and went peacefully. His horse buddy even grieved for him. It has been awhile now and I know it was hard on my dad losing Sarge. I think he is ready for another farm dog/companion.
I am sure he would not want a young puppy but an older puppy would be fine. Sarge was a black/brown shepard and rather big. I have seen pictures on this forum of dogs that looked like Sarge. He was one of a kind and part of the family like all of our animals. My dad's zip is 42459 and mine is 24283. I am planning a visit in Feb. and I would love to have a dog for dad as a gift. If you need more info. just ask. I would appreciate the help.

This would be an outside dog. My dad has 40 acres and 3 horses. The dog would be a trail dog for dad when he is riding and a buddy to hang out with. My mom has a little inside dog that is let out several times a day. I would prefer a male but a female is fine. We would have it nuetered.

Thank You

This is my dad and his horses so you get an idea of what kind of home the dog would have. This would be a well loved dog. I get my love for animals from my dad and so does my son.

i would go on petfinder to look. There are lots of good dogs on there. That would be your best guess to get a older dog.

I am in Saint Paul, Virginia. My dad is in Sturgis Ky.

I am looking for a shepard that looked like Sarge. The Brown/Black type. I will look again but I didn't see that type of shepard just mixes like my Duke.

I know where one is,it is on our road, someone dumped him,but someone we know took him in,however they let him run,and we have about hit him before,I can talk to the guy to see if he wants him? He is a really nice looking dog, other then that,I know nothing about him.

You are in KY too. My dad loves out in the middle of nowhere so letting a dog run is no problem here. There is little traffic on his road. Sarge stayed in the yard even though he could roam. He was a natural gaurd dog. It wouldn't hurt to ask about him. I would be willing to come get him if he rides well. I don't know how far you are from my dad. Thanks.

Thanks but I did look into the rescues. They want the dog to be a house dog not a farm dog. It is sad that great people can't rescue great dogs because the standerds are so high or not practicle for everyone who wants one. German Shepards are great farm dogs...loyal, territorial, and great one person/family dogs. But don't tell the rescue that is what you want them for. It is sad.
