Discouraged.

I am a member on another forum for pitbulls only, so i showed them the story of the puppies, i keep them updated with who gets adopted, like i do yall. but yall are more my family (lol) and, i was telling them how many were pending- and they asked if i done homechecks. I said no our adoption coordinator never said anything about that. We do Vet refrences and they fill out a application. And they went on and on about how important homechecks were, which they are but i can only do so much. and this one woman said i if i cant rescue right, i shouldnt do it at all i should just go up there and play with them and if i cant bear to see them there take them to get PTS. NO WAY would i EVER do that and i told them i may stop posting there. Do you agree with this lady?

Not at all. First off from my understanding you are about the only hope these animals have. Not only that you are a child doing the best you can for those babies. Foolish woman, at least you are making an effort.

I totally disagree with her. The shelter I work for doesn't even check references unless it is a bully breed. Usually they just fill out the adoption application and pay the fee. Even for bully breeds they don't do a home visit we just basically talk to everybody on the application and make sure the dog is allowed in the town that they live. You are doing a wonderful thing and there is no way my heart would let those babies stay in the shelter knowing they don't have much of a chance. You are their life line!

I agree with Fehu.

Southern, I know sometimes I give you alot of c rap, but I know you are doing everything you can, and I also agree these dogs need you, and you are helping them.

I think if its possible you should do homechecks, but I understand its hard for you.
Maybe something you can do is follow up calls to make sure they are ok.

Southern.. people often forget how young you are. A home check is a great tool but it is only a tool. So you have to use other tools. PTS is not a tool IMO.

Do what you can for those that can be saved.

Southerngirl, you should be proud of what you are doing, and at a very young age.

In a perfect world, yes there would be a pre-adoption home visit and at least 2 unannounced post adoption visits. But that would be for any adoption agency or rescue agency.

You are as careful as you can be and without you some of these little creatures would be in a terrible situation. Keep up the good work.

You are doing an awesome job doing what you can for these pups. If you wouldn't have rescued them, then God knows what would have happened to them. It doesn't exactly seem like your pound would be doing homechecks anyway You're about the same age as me, and I know that I can't just hop in the car and drive to wherever I want (yet) While doing homechecks is a good idea, you can only do what you can. The pups are much better off than if you wouldn't have found them, and certainly better than if they had been put down.

SG, you are a true god send to these pups. Not many of us can do what you do, as much as we would like to. Dont listen to crabby old women who dont know the whole deal. The animal shelter where I got Bundy from didnt care what I did with him, signed no papers or nothing, just took him if we liked him otherwise he would of been PTS.

Even when I rescued one of my cats from the RSPCA, I didnt even have a home check or anything for that. It would be nice if we could all do home checks but sometimes there are things we can not do. Just ignore that woman, we are here for you.
