I could do the leg up to Wichita. Actually, since I'm in Stillwater, I might be able to meet up somewhere before Blackwell so that Sandy doesn't have to travel so far. I've never done one of these before though so you'll have to fill me in on details like how we meet up for transfer etc.

You're an angel! Kimberly is the one that is monitoring the transport. Her email address is listed, just click on it and ask her any questions that you have and she should respond quickly. Make sure you say Maybelline's transport in the title of the email. Thank you so much!!

Alex- If you don't mind my asking, why aren't you going to get her yourself? You can take vacation time if you work to get her. If you are a stay at home person, you can get her. It looks like you are only willing to drive 1 hour and 45 minutes. Wouldn't it be better for her, if you cannot get her yourself, to let another person adopt her- this way she won't have to wait for a home.

I can't just leave everything (handicapped dog, special needs children) and just drive to Texas. I wasn't going to adopt her I was only going to sponsor her but she was only hours away from being put to sleep and NOBODY wanted her. The rescue emailed me and offered to coordinate a transport if I would save her life and pay for everything so I did.

What about getting the dog to you by Delta Dash? The animals are not in a cargo hold- they are right behind the cockpit, in a presserized area- the same area that would have seats in it. There is another airline that flies this way, but I don't know which it is. I just know Delta, because a friends husband is a pilot for Delta. Come to think of it, it might be American Airlines that also does it. You can leave a special needs dog- I'm sure you have made provisions to have someone care for your animals in an emergency- just consider this an 'emergency'! Take your kids with you- it can be a learning trip. What would you do if you had to be hospitalized- if you and your husband were injured and unable to do the chores yourselves? Hopefully you have a plan for the unexpected. It would only take 2-3 days each way- and that is driving at a leisurely pace! I guess I just don't agree with not having a plan to get the animal to you without depending on other people, as they usually have enough to do themselves with their own dogs.

I am really not going to argue this anymore. My kids are sick with the flu and my husband has a full time job that he has to be at. I really don't have any family or friends that can just jump right in and help because they have jobs also. Like I said before, the rescue is the one setting up the transport and they said they have done transports to Iowa before so they offered to do this for Maybelline because they enjoy saving every animal they can. I just found out today that the lady from a rescue in Iowa was going to do a lot of the transport because she has to go most of the way anyway but her plans changed so this is a last minute resort we are trying to do so this dog doesn't have to be put to sleep and can live a long and happy life. Rescues are transporting about anywhere now. Believe me, if I could take off to Texas to get Maybelline I would because I just payed almost $300 to have her pulled from the shelter and all of her medical stuff done that she needed. I am not asking for help with a transport to be selfish I really want to save this dog's life.

Old Horse Mom, why do you have to be so negative? Just because she isn't doing it the way you would do it doesn't make it wrong in anyway! This is a very common way of transporting dogs. Everyone who is helping out it the transport is volunteering their time, money, and effort without any complaint, so why do you have to get on here and makes complaints when you aren't even involved. If you can't or won't help, fine don't. But don't come in here with you pompous attitude and try make the OP feel bad for helping out this dog!
