Look what's Gorgeous in the Shelter...

He isn't at my work, we currently do not have any dogs and only a few cats as the shelter's driver isn't available to bring us any animals this week. But this gorgeous man is back at the shelter....

Tom *Special Needs*
Tom is a very gentle, friendly, handsome, and intelligent boy, who needs lots of exercise and a constant routine. He knows his basic commands and walks quite well on the leash. Tom lacks confidence and leadership, and therefore needs a guardian to be gentle, yet firm. He requires strong, positively reinforced socialization with new situations, people, and dogs, to increase his confidence. He can not live with cats, but he does enjoy the company of other dogs. Poor Tom has passed through three homes in the past two months. He has a problem digesting food and requires a supplement to his daily, bland diet. He's a great dog who deserves a seriously committed owner. Tom's full medical file is available. For more information, please call the shelter.

History
Sweet Jewel was surrendered to the shelter, along with her son, Kaos.
Personality
Jewel is very appropriately named, as she's an absolute gem of a dog, a beauty inside and out! Everyone who walks her, falls in love with her. She's very sweet-natured and affectionate, with a calm, motherly disposition. She walks VERY well on the leash (she's obviously had "heel" training) and knows her basic commands. Jewel is very good with other friendly dogs - she plays very well with them - and we're told she has also previously lived with a cat.
From Jewel's foster mom:
"This calm little pittie is the perfect size and temperament for a new pit bull owner. She had to blend in to a household already full of active dogs (three!) and a cat. She bent over backwards trying to be friends with everyone and completely ignored my cat. Unfortunately my small terrier has decided to hate her and it makes living here difficult.

Jewel is very low key, but still wrestles around with Bilbo my youngest dog and they have a great time. She heels beautifully and has obviously had leash training. She gets her food and treats away from the other dogs and this will have to continue if she finds a home as a second dog, due to some food guarding she’s developed over her previous sad life of being perpetually under fed. I don’t have any toys around the house at present to avoid conflict (remember 4 dogs!), but out in the yard she LOVES playing tug with the spring pole!

She is totally house trained and will ask to go out. Currently I have her sleeping on a dog bed in the bathroom at night and she settles in without a complaint until morning.
Don’t let her cropped ears put you off; she’s one of the gentlest, sweetest pit bulls I’ve encountered in a long time and would likely fit in well with less experienced pit bull owners, and as a second dog with food guarding awareness by the owners, as well. She loves to cuddle and will fall asleep in your arms if given half a chance."

Poor Babes, both of them. Tom really tugs at me. I do hope the next door that opens for them is forever and full of love and a lifetime commitment!

They both look like such sweeties. I LOVE Tom (even though he doesn't match my doggy-color-decor )
