Down Dachsie in OH Needs Rescue

Hi everyone;

There's an unaltered 5 year old black/tan male dachshund in Cleveland, OH who is down, named Coco. He's been down for 1 month now. He has bladder/bowel control. He's able to stand and take steps...in the morning sometimes he's not able to walk--owner thinks it's because of sleeping all night on his legs, etc. Of course, surgery was recommended, upwards of $4000.

I spoke to the owner tonight and told him about crate rest, Adequan, acupuncture, supplements, water therapy, etc. He wasn't aware of any of this. He's been on/off Prednisone for a month...I stressed how important is was for him to be weened off, not just give one here or there when I think he's having a bad day.

The owner has 4 young children. He was very interested in everything I told him, but is still not sure that he can provide the best for Coco. He's going to call me back either way to let me know if they want to try these alternate methods or still want to find him a rescue.
