New Teeth

You know I posted about Poppy's canines a few weeks ago and how they are in the wrong place, well, this week's check revealed new ones. The puppy teeth are still there, but the new ones are coming through on the "inside" of the puppy teeth ie closer to her tongue.

Is this normal? I don't know. Will this solve the problem? I don't know. Am I going to worry about it? No, I will ask the vet at her next appointment in a couple of weeks.

I just wanted to share as my other friends (ie non-forum) are sick of hearing me say Poppy this and Poppy that...

Retained puppy teeth are a problem. Yes you should get them checked out and possibly removed, they stop the primary's from going in the correct place.
Also they can turn black (baby ones) then there is a possiblility of Tetenus from bacteria lodging in them.
This is a vet visit this time Baby.

while her teeth are like that i would suggest brushing them at least twice a day,as bacteria can get in there

There again Dogluvin I have experienced the opposite with one of my Labs. The baby teeth did not fall out on their own. At 10 months the dog had to have them removed after 3 shots against tetenus. The teeth went green then black.

That's what happened with Kirby's canines. Bothered me more than him, and the vet said he could take them out if I wanted, but there were no problems with them.

Are they insane? Some people have no sense of loyality!

I agree with the overall thread to monitor and have vet take a look at. It's not a "special" trip and may resolve but you have the vet on speed dial anyway. LOL

I didn't mean to sound like I didn't care when I said that I wasn't going to worry about it. I'm not going to worry about it (too much) until my next appointment! She is going next Friday anyway, so I'll get them to check it out then. I'll also get a second opinion when I get her spayed in December because I'm taking her to a different vets for that.

Dax, you are right, some people have no sense of loyalty, no sense at all...

We know exactly what you meant, no need to worry that we may think you won't care Mrs Worry Wort. lol lol.
Yep, next vet visit is fine, nothing too much will happen in a hurry.
Just that I would hate you to leave it altogether. It can go the other way. I know only too well.
But then I know you wouldn't leave it anyway.

Two of my males had double canines for a while. Moby has his until a year+ and Carbon had one when he died at 10 months. I had one vet say, keep an eye on them and we will pull them when we neuter if they are still there. I had another vet tell me to pull them immediately. Another one that said, brush and keep clean for a month if they don't come out, we will pull.

The double canine never bothered either dog, but it, of course, can present some serious concerns with mouth/teeth/gum development as well as pose a greater chance of infection.
