My pup has diarrhea-HELP
Hi everyone!
I have an 18 week old lab pup that has been having off and on diarrhea for the last two weeks, going on three weeks. She is on Science Diet puppy food and treats, I have excluded pigs ears and any other treats ie. rawhide. She will eat if I put the food down, she is playful, drinking, no blood, but it is a mucus like consistancy. She is totally potty trained in her kennel and house but lately she can't hold it through the night or day. She is pooping at least twice in the kennel and waking me up at least three times a night. When prior to this slept through the night and NEVER pooped in her kennel. When this began it lasted for two days and she was put on Flagyl for 4 days ( I talked to the vet), then everything was fine. It began again in the middle of the next week, she had it for two days. Everything was fine after that, on friday of last week she got it again and sunday she was fine. Today she pooped solid in the AM and this afternoon she had a firm stool that ended in diarrhea and walked a few steps and acted like she had to go again with a little liquid squirt. Her last stool sample, 3 months ago was WNL. Can any one offer any advice, other than go to the vet because I am calling her tomorrow. My poor girl has lost weight and I know she does not want to be pooping in her kennel. The weird thing is she won't go in the house just in the kennel and outside. HELP, HELP!! Thank you in advance and I am sorry for the lenghth just wanted to put as much info as possible in for advice. THANKS |

It could be a type of worm - I would take a stool sample to the vet and puppy too and have a look. I know that Loki gets that way too when he is having problems with digesting food. If you would want to try to switch, you would want to do it over a period of time. I would pick something with simple ingredients such as California Natural.
Try fasting for 1 day, give some pumpkin and put on a soft/easy diet of boiled chicken and rice. Pumpkin can help. Make sure puppy stays hydrated, you can put pedialyte in her water. You could try some Kyopactate - if there is an emergency vet hotline or if your vet is still in, you could call and ask what you can do to get through the night and then try to see the vet as soon as possible tomorrow! I would start at the vets though!! Sounds like parasite or a type of worm. |
