Fundraising idea?
This is not something I have done. I was talking to my mom about this and she is one who prefers to buy from a breeder. She did her share of rescue while I was growing up. We collaborated an idea that I think would be a great fundraiser what do you think?
Volunteer (approved) trainers and shelters work together. A trainer volunteers to train a dog for a certain time frame(say one month). Each trainer gets a dog to work with from a shelter. It can be one shelter or various ones. The shelter wil pick a dog that they feel will benefit most from the training as well as being adoptable.
At the end of the month their is a festival type thing. All the dogs and trainers go through an obedienmce test etc to show what the dog can do.
People and potential adoptees can see the dogs here at this festival type setting. All adoptees must be preapproved. After the demosntration or competition if you so choose people bid on the dogs. I hate the term bid as they are dogs and not items but I am lacking a better word. People are not bidding for trained dogs so they are paying adoption fees vetting training and seeing what it is worth to them.
The trainers do not get money. It is their volunteer time and free pr I guess. The money for each dog goes to the shelter that the dog came from.
Obviously this was only a discussion but I thought it would be kinda neat.
The positives: A dog has a foster home for a month instead of the shelter. They are getting trained which is helpful in getting them adopted.
Trainers and shelters are getting exposure by working together.
More money may come into the shelters above and beyond the adoption fee.
As with positives there are always negatives but this was simply a thought and something that would take a lot of work and time to coordinate.
What are your thoughts or other thoughts for raising money for shelters?
