Unhappy Food for thought

Just a little something I came across in an email....

There are 45 cats and dogs for every person born.
Only 1 out of 10 dogs born ever get a home.
Only 1 out of 12 cats born ever find a home.
800 dogs & cats are KILLED each HOUR in the U.S, because there are not enough homes for them.
SPAY and NEUTER!

I guess thats why I do what I do.

Just another reason I am so passionate with some of my "anti breed" rants.

Thats sad. It just makes me want to goto the shelter and get them all and find them homes, i can only do so much but doing something is better than doing nothing.

That is sad. Hey Dobermom. Make a thread about how to begin rescue and what you need. And what you should expect. I hope to do the same as you one day. I couldn't possibly right now but hopefully when were more financially stable and own our home.

SWC, that's a wonderful suggestion! Advice about fostering/rescue!

One of the reasons I haven't been on here as much as usual is b/c I've been doing research, etc. in this area. My dream is to develop a business that would allow me the time & resources to do foster/rescue work & still be able to support my family as a single parent!

Anyways, recent events (as in discovering exactly how boring & unsatisfying my job is & how NWIH I want to do this until I retire, etc.) has got me thinking more about this. I think I've got the answer & I've got three years to plan to make it a reality!

Advice from those who have experience in foster/rescue would be greatly appreciated by me & all those who desire to help our furry friends in this capacity!

Those are some very very sad statistics . My mom and I were talking, she was a person who always bought from breeders (she is a kitty-only home) and we both came up with the 'unless entering the show world, we'll only be doing rescue adoptions'. She also doesn't want kittens anymore because she wants to see how the kitty will look in their adult life (no guess work).
