Woohoo, Eddie's leg checks out!

Three months ago, Eddie came up lame on one leg after a tussle with a neighborhood puppy, and my vet thought it could be a problem with his cranial cruciate ligament. He advised pulling him out of agility for 3 months and getting retested.

Today's radiograph and range-of-motion tests indicated no problems. It doesn't mean he won't aggravate something later, but he's been cleared to resume agility!

I am wrestling a little bit with whether to put him back in. If he doesn't have strong knees, maybe I shouldn't risk it. I don't want him to suffer in his old age because I pushed him into agility.

But then again, agility is a healthy activity overall for his body and his mind, and it's and a great bonding activity for the two of us. I think I'm going to take my chances and get him back into it. Maybe see if there's a way I can avoid having him do the 6-foot A frame, which is tough on little dogs.

Go Eddie!

In the AAC the regular A-frame is 5'6" and the specials A-frame is 5'. Any dog may run the specials class after any period (or none) of time competing in regulars, but they may not re-enter regulars again.

That's good to hear. I was under the impression 6 or more was standard, but that may just be for AKC? I'm def. going to take AD's advice and take it easy in the short term and see how he holds up.

Way to go Eddie!!

If it were me, I'd probably wait until the spring to start agility up again, and then start slow. I know when I'm sore, the cold makes things hurt worse.

I'm happy you might be able to start it again, I know you both really enjoyed it.

That's a good idea! Plus, I can't practice in the backyard until spring anyway.

Thank everybody for the kind words.

Great news for Eddie. Agility might be just the ticket so he can practice leaping over those moose LOL

Jumping on and off the bed is probably as stressful on his joints as agility would be. Muscle tone is very important for senior health.
