ok so i did something STUPID!

My daughters beloved cat go loose and he's been missing for 4 days now i have done everything i can think of to find him and of course he does not have a collar/id because he's an indoor cat anyhoo we are up at the humane society to see if he's been brought in and bring pics and things like that...there was a guy up there with a older kitten and he had rescued...he's had it for about 4 days he brought it in to the society and there were no kennels available...this genleman was an older handicapped fellow and was desperate. The humane society had told him to take it to the pound so he called the pound to tell them he was coming and in and was handicapped so he would need help they told him sure but be advised that they are currently putting cats to sleep almost as soon as they come in due to the overwhelming amount that are coming in. i just COULD NOT allow this to happen. So he's here with us...i am torn between OMG what was i thinking i have 8 dogs 4 cats 2 ferrets and 3 birds what am i gonna do with another cat. Have i bitten off more than i can chew?! I hope not...He loves people and even loves the car ride but he HATES he other animals i think he is more scared than anything....but my problem is this i don't want him messing in the house but he's to terrified of the other animals to come out of his hiding spot what should i do with him so he doesn't mess in my house. should i maybe put newspaper down in his hiding spot...i showed him where the litter box is at here he is hiding behind my rocker/recliner

If it doesn't work out, or if you've bitten off more than you can chew, as you put it, then you can always rehome him. At least now he has a chance, whereas if he had been relinquished to the pound, he would have been put down.

I would be more inclined to put him in a room by himself. Be it the laundry, bathroom or a bedroom just so he can settle in for a few days and get used to his surroundings. Then slowly introduce him to everyone. You dont want to overwhelm him.

I would've done the same thing!

Like Lovemelovemedog said, try & put him in a room all to himself with a small litter box.

Usually cats are pretty easy whether you have 2 cats or 4 cats or more, just more litter boxes to clean and mouths to feed (IMO). You did the right thing, and if it doesn't work out, like others have said, you can rehome him. Good luck (hope your other kitty comes home). I really think somebody had you in the 'right spot at the right time' it seems to coincidental to me.
