Red face Please Help

Please help us! Our 4 month old Corgi boy was diagnosed with hydrocephalus.
His sight is impaired somewhat. He is on steroids for now, but symptoms will
get worse with his death before the year is over. Shunt surgery is an option,
a very expensive option with no real improvement, maybe some additional
damage. Has anyone else experienced this with their puppy and have you
had the surgery, what were results, long-term disposition, etc? Any info would
help us deal with this terrible situation. We love our baby and want to do the
best thing for him. We are heartsick. Thank you so much.

I am sorry this is happening to your pup. Have you informed the breeder?
I will keep you in our prayers.

I'm so sorry to hear of this. In humans, putting in a shunt is a routine procedure that directs the excess cerebral spinal fluid into the abdominal cavity. I wonder if it's the same for dogs. I would think that the procudure would be quite costly but as you've said, it is an option.
Whatever you decide, I support your position. God luck, best wishes and many prayers.

I am so sorry you are going through such a rough time. Loss of a loved pet is so difficult, no matter why it happens. Did you purchase this pup from a breeder? If so, the pup should be guaranteed and I have to wonder why the breeder's vet didn't diagnose the condition before you got the pup. So sad, I'll be thinking of you.

Sorry I can't give advise ether, as I've yet to research this problem. I will say though, that corgi's do come with quite a lot of problems, and you should always ask the breeder about the type of health testing done on the parents. I would like to ask as well, where did you get your pup from? Also, Which "corgi" is yours?
Sorry you and your pup must go through this, hope he does get better no matter what you choose to do.

Sorry to hear about your Corgi. I work at a vet neuro center and we have done shunt surgeries. They are rare, expensive, but can be very succesful. As a matter of fact we saw one of our success stories a couple months ago, a toy poodle, happy and loving life. It is a complicated sx but can be done....have you been to a neurologist that is the only vet I would trust to do it.
