Red face pembroke welsh corgi

Please help us! Our 4 month old Corgi boy was diagnosed with hydrocephalus.
His sight is impaired somewhat. He is on steroids for now, but symptoms will
get worse with his death before the year is over. Shunt surgery is an option,
a very expensive option with no real improvement, maybe some additional
damage. Has anyone else experienced this with their puppy and have you
had the surgery, what were results, long-term disposition, etc? Any info would
help us deal with this terrible situation. We love our baby and want to do the
best thing for him. We are heartsick. Thank you so much.

I"m soo sorry to hear about your puppy. This is not something I've expereinced, but I wanted to tell you we're here for you.

I would recommend contacting the breeder where you got the dog for a couple of reasons. 1. The breeder will want to know to avoid that breeding in the future. 2. You should have at least a 1 year gaurentee regarding such things and may provide you with another pup (not a very good consuilation I know, but an option) and/or they may be willing to help witht he surgery costs. 3. The breeder may have experince this in the past and will have more information

I can tell you that my breeder would recommed having the pup put to sleep, especially if death is most likely even with the surgery. It's hard to watch pups go through something like that. One of the pups from Roxie's first litter was born with her intestines growint around her stomach and as she grew she was slowly starving her self to death. We spent a lot of money trying to correct it and she passed away a few weeks after the surgery. It was heart breaking. So I can understand your delima. My prayers are with you

I am so sorry to hear about your dog I have had corgis my whole life but never have heard of this condition before so I cant really help. Its ultimately your choice on what to do depending on what the dog's quality of life is like right now and if he is in any pain at the moment. Take care.
