Bird Seed?
Kraemer has a thing for bird seed. I mean, he LOVES it. He goes to great lengths to get to Morgans food all the time. I put out a treat stick to give to Morgan this morning and then ran off to answer the phone. I came back and there is Kraemer, chomping away.
My guess was that his bad diet is lacking proper fiber and that maybe the bird seed helps that out. But, that's a random guess. I have no idea. Any guesses? I don't know if it really affects his health, but this seemed like a good section, lol. |

I copied this from the ASPCA Animal Poison Control website. So FYI:
My dogs frequently visit the area around our parrot and bird cages, snuffing up and eating bird seed hulls—and probably the occasional droppings. We clean the area regularly, but are concerned about health problems in our dogs. Should we worry? —Kristi H. Kristi, most commercial bird seed and the occasional dropping from a healthy bird would not be expected to cause problems beyond minor stomach upset—if consumed by a dog or cat in small quantities. If your dog were to ingest a very large amount of seeds, however—such as from a knocked-over feeder, or if he had access to an entire bag—this could lead to an intestinal impaction or obstruction. If you feel that either of your dogs may be capable of doing this, then it would be a good idea to make sure the feeder is high enough to be out of their reach, and that any remaining seed be kept in a secure container in an area not accessible to them. |

Thank you Deb for posting that info. Jinjo loves to nose around under the bird cage for food bits. The bird has been better lately about dumping his seed on the floor, as we found him a bowl that is conected to a perch, placeing it in the middle of his pen.

Ut oh.... My parents have many bird feeders out. One's on the ground. I didn't know it was there for a long time and thought someone was feeding my dog handfuls of black oil sunflower seeds! She'd leave a pile of them in the yard occasionally. Obviously, it was my folks feeder she was getting into. Sunflower all you can eat buffet for Phoebe!. I keep her out of it since I found out it was there. I'm telling you though.. they all went right through her.
I'm sure it's not funny, but it kinda was at the time. I was ready to battle with a neighbor for a while there , all the time it was her Grammas fault! (kidding)
