Runny eye that matts shut.... Ideas?

I was wondering, I wont be able to see vet till Tuesday so just wondering what you guys think.

Copper's right eye matts shut when she sleeps at night (this just started 2 days ago). This is the ONLY time it does this. She is unable to open right eye on her own until we wash it with warm water.
Is it most likely just a cold? Would it be in just one eye??

EDIT:

Since I have this one going, gonna double up and ask another question. Vet told me to give her small dose of cough medicine if her coughing gets bad(kennel cough). She really dislikes the taste, any ideas of what to use to mask the taste of the cough syrup?

Sounds like an eye infection. Is the discharge greenish? I would check the eye to see if there is a hair or something rubbing the eye.

Personally I would not allow it to go on for more than a day or two before I have a vet look at it. It might be nothing but eyes are so sensitive.

I would make sure all the hair is trimmed away from the eyes so nothing gets in there. When my dogs eyes got bad I used warm salt water and then rinced it with just warm water and it worked within a day and doesn't hurt them at all. I have to do it on myself to with my alergies. But the kennel cough thing worries me b/c that can get bad quick. But I am sure that the vet will give you medication for both.

I looked at her eye, cant really see if anything is in it or not. The discharge is a pale whitish color.

We already took care of kennel cough, just have to let it run its course now. But she has already had her shots, and antibiotics.

I know that sometimes an eyelash or hair can grow the wrong way around thte eye and cause some irritation in there. Sounds more like an infection and your vet will have to give you a special ointment to apply till it clears up. Hope she feels better soon!

I would go to the vet I have pugs and they are prone to eye injuries and they can go bad very fast and cost loads of money to save the eye. better safe then sorry even a tiny scratch can get infected in just a couple days.

My lab had kennel cough, he's been on antibiotics for almost 6 weeks, he's never had and eye sealed shut by bugers. I'ts been 2 months since and then and i only notice is a seldom small cough. He does get eye bugers through the ducts but that's about it.
Kipp's up to date on all his shots as well.
Interesting though.

Give her children's benedryl Pill form with some peanut butter.
