Hi
I have an old chihuhua he's about 9 years old, for a few days now he doesn't want to eat or feel like moving much. He doesn't want to eat anything not even chicken ( his favorite type of food). He has also gotten very thin and is loosing teeth. I know there's not much we can do, but we dont want to put him to sleep. If we take him to the vet, is there anything they can do for his pain???
Please HELP.

I know a 19 year minature poodle that has lost all her teeth on the one side and a fair number on the other. She is nearly blind and requires extra ordinary care.

It is up to you whether now is the time or if you wish to keep your dog alive. I suggest you contact your vet to have an assessment done. He can tell you ways to keep your dog happier & healthier or if it would be more humane to let them go.

you really should go speak with your vet. s/he will knwo what is best for your dog.... it is very hard to not be selfish in this situation, but you love your dog so much, you need to figure out what is best for him

good luck and hugs to your dog

what is his name ??

He isn't necessarily dying, you need to contact your vets, he may be ill from a virus to any number of things, don't put this off because you feel the vet will tell you to put him down.
9 is not very old for that breed of dog, most of the little ones go till 14, 15 etc.
There are many drugs available to ease pain in dogs, but that is providing it is not some sort of bug that requires other kinds of medication.
They are also well known for loosing teeth, but even 2 or three are enough to eat with, and even then you can plan a specific diet.
As Doglover stated about the poodle, my parents just had to put down their Maltese, a ripe 17, she had 4 teeth left, her tongue hung out slightly because of it, she was deaf, and blind, they carried her everywhere. I said that it was unfair to her now.
They were keeping her alive for themselves and not for the dog.

How did things turn out? I'm wondering if the tooth loss is going on in relation to the pain. Grinding the teeth so hard they fall out. The weight loss is obviously due to the loss of appetite.
