I have an adopted dog who I doubt has ever went to a groomer before. He has been sick and is finally well enough to go to a groomer, but I believe he was abused so he is very wary of people messing with him. I've tried grooming a bit myself but he won't have it. He growls and has bitten at me. He doesn't do this when the vet is doing stuff with him, so I don't know if he would bite at the groomer or not. I really want to get him groomed by a professional, but will they do it?

Thanks for any help!

I think if they put a muzzle on him he should be fine but I'm not sure, but I think if he bite you then they might not take him, not sure on that though

I know some groomers muzzle the dog no matter. Limits the chance of being bit and your dog being labelled a biter.
You should be able to find a groomer without trouble they may just ask YOU to muzzle him.

Definitely muzzle your dog and find yourself a groomer who try to clean him up. Tell the groomer to talk happy to him throughout the entire time he's being groomed. I hope it works. Good luck! I adopted my dog Darla from a shelter, and she hates other dogs with a passion, displaying agressive behavior and she gets tough, but a swety to humans. Well, she was also sick when we got her, and a month later it was time to give her a well deserved bath. My husband and I spent an hour washing her, plus an hour drying her and brushing, (she's big, husky/belgian tervuren mix), but we didn't do that good of a job. 2 weeks later we called different groomers and told them that she is nasty when in the presence of other dogs, well, we took her at night, she was the last customer, no other dogs there, they did her up, suddenly another dog arrived, she tried jumping from the table, the groomer tried holding her and she growled at her, they had to muzzle her and everything was under control all of a sudden.
Good luck with your dog.
