Switched to Nutro/dogs won't eat it
I thought I would switch to a better food, and from what i heard Nutro is a better food, they have been on Purina One,which they love,I gave them 3/4 of Purina,to 1/4 of Nutro to start with, but they wouldn't eat it,so I gave them more Nutro, and less of the Purina, thinging if they was hungry, they would eat the Nutro, but they just ate what little of the Purina they had in the bowl, and they refuse to eat the Nutro,I even put some chicken broth in it,hoping they would eat some, nope, they won't touch it? Anyone got any suggestions?

Don't give up right away.
My dogs did the same transition and didn't like it at the beginning. At the time, someone, here, told me to stick it,out cos hunger and survival will prevail and it did. I would give them the food, twice a day, leave it on the floor for 15mns and then pick it ,up.They, soon, realized that if they were hungry, they had to eat. Now,they love it. I will also say that I did try nutro but they didn't like it so I changed it to canidae, innova evo and kirkland and i rotate food from time to time. |

Nutro is better than Purina one. I had Zorro on both. he LOVES purina one but he kept getting over weight. It did take him awhile to get use to the nutro but eventually he liked it. I stopped giving it to him cause we could only get it about 30 minutes away in a store that was not open during the weekends plus it was not the greatest for his stomache. We now are going to start trying Eagle Pack

Purina One probably tastes better. Think about a kid eating french fries and broccoli. Though the broccoli is better for them the fries taste better. Stick it out. Nutro is a good food. Give it time. Still change it gradually so they don't get tummy aches but they will eat it. And don't start flavoring it or you are setting yourself up for trouble later

I had the same problem with my dog when I tried to switch him from Pro Plan to Nutro.
It is not normally recommended that you switch over straight away, but to get him to eat the Nutro it was the only way. We just switched directly over, and if he didn't eat, he had to go hungry. (Surprisingly enough, we actually learned that a slow switch with this dog *causes* diarrhea, where as he's completely fine with fast switches.) I wouldn't give up just yet. Stick at it for just a while longer. Also, I'm not sure what size of bag you've bought, but when switching to a new food I always buy just a small bag of the food to make sure that the dogs will eat and like it, so that if they don't, I wouldn't have wasted so much money. (And I tend to donate the food to the Humane Society as well. Shouldn't go to waste.) |

Do you have a Costco by you? You had mentioned that you are bacially out in the Boonies. Kirkland brand is put out by Costco and costs 18.69 for 40 pounds of dry. People in the forum had recommended this brand and my husband and I went with with it because of it's nutritional value, plus the price was excellent

She can't do that. No credit/debit cards. And before it's mentioned no I'm not going to volunteer mine.
