Exclamation Entropion

OH my, Koni is at the vet now. My boyfriend called and said that Koni has Entropion, and it is a hereditary problem. He needs surgery Umm anyone familiar with this? How come it would just happen now????Help!

Anything I should know about for the surgery? The vet can't do the surgery and I have to schedule it with another company? Will this be more than one procedure?

It is hereditary and many hereditary things do not show up until the dogs are older.... That is why it is important that you KNOW lines do NOT have issues and that breeders follow up on their breedings their whole lives to know what they acomplished or failed in. Puppies don't normally go home with the issues visible.

oh and I had to be very careful when I was looking for my urban search and rescue bloodhound because it runs heavily in he breed. Some cats even have this issue.
It is a fairly simple operation and actually is done very frequently. The problem worsens over time if left untreated and can cause even more issues.

This is something very easily repaired and eyes heal quickly with the proper care
Good thing you took him in and didn't wait some times it can cause ulcers on the eye and blindness if untreated can lead to the eye being removed

Well I contacted the eye specialists in the area and they are all booked for the next 4-5 weeks, but they told me he needs to be seen immediately? So much for Koni's birthday.

Greta has entropian in both eyes and has it for years. Hers appears to to be mild and has very minor scratching and abrasion on her eyes so we just let her be. On a good, tired day, I can get her to relax enough to let me tweeze out the problem eyelashes. Good luck with Koni. I hope all goes well with surgery

Good luck Hon. It's an easily fixed problem but what a shame the vet can't take him in sooner.

Update: Koni doesn't have entropion. The vet did not diagnose him correctly, which made me buy medicine for nothing. The eye specialist ruled out entropion and sad it is trauma to the eye, which I think was caused by the kids sticking their fingers at Koni through the fence. Friday we have a check up with the specialist again.
