Dislocated Hip

I had to take my Katy to the vet yesterday and she has a dislocated hip not sure what happened. She had a gaping would on the foot of the other leg and it is looking good. The vet has her in a really weird sling it is figure 8'd around her leg and then goes around the belly this keeps the leg up next to the body like a "chicken wing" she seems to be handling it well. She is my rambunkous one fast a lightening watches every thing on the place. The vet wants the sling to stay on at least 2 weeks 3 if possible. Say a prayer for her and me that I can keep her quiet long enough.

I went thru that with my pom Peaches, when she slipped on the steps in a snowstorm. Boy was it hard to keep her from ripping that sling off. She had to wear the e collar and be crated alot because of the other dogs. But it worked and we avoided surgery and she lived about 6 more years after that and never had one problem with her hip.

Poor baby! It's always so hard when one of the kids gets a problem. Especially when you have to keep them "calm" to heal! Hope it's a speedy recovery & that the sling does the trick! Best of luck to both of you from me & the gang!

Update on Katy, she is being a good patient so far. I take her out to potty several times a day and she hobbles out on 3 legs, then she hobbles back in. She is bored I think. Appetite is not good but drinking a good amount of water. I can tell when we go out she really would like to run and play it is really sad to see her in that contraption. Thanks guys for your prayers and well wishes.
