bowel motion (too much)

Hey everyone,

I've been having a long think about my 3 year old poodle & his eating habits & I think I might of figured out what could be wrong with him. For those of you who don't know Coco is underweight & eats everything in the house ( + more). He's had abdominal Xray & blood test & all came back normal. The only thing that was found wrong with him was blocked tear ducts in both eyes so his eyes are always red even with eye drops.

Anyway hes up to date on his wormer & hes had his food changed so many times that nothing is working. The only symptoms he has is shaking like he feels the cold, eating loads & pooping a LOT & hyperactivity. I really do mean a lot. He poops about 10 times a day & drinks a lot. Diabetes & Thyroid has been ruled out.

But this idea came to me earlier. Because hes pooping a lot this explains the weight loss because that's how our bodies clear away the food etc. BUT the strange thing is its normal poop. Not Diarrhea. Is there a problem with a dogs bowels that can cause this along with weight loss? He doesn't seem to be in any pain & hes a happy little thing but he does have his off days when he looks very sad. Any idea on what this could be? I might have his weight back on him soon once I know what's going on. His weight loss has literally been bugging me for months now. Thanks.

Could it be a tape worm?

I have a dog like that. My puggle gets a high quality food and a little less than 2 cups a day and he can poop up to 8 times a day. Totally normal poops too. I had taken him to the vet wondering if it was a digestion issue and everything same as you and the vet found nothing.

His comment was "so little input so much output" He just figured he has a high metabolism. He told me he was at a good weight but he is the same weight he was from the shelter and has not put on a single pound. The vet told me that he is the type that no matter how much I feed he will not gain weight, he will just poop more. So it may just be him because I went through all kinds of things as well and there is nothing wrong with mine.

I had a dog like that and couldn't keep weight on him, we ended up giving him to a friend (long story). He started to gain weight, why?? He was eating the cat food instead of his dog food, weird but true. my old vet had said don't let the dogs eat cat food it will make them fat. I don't know why. maybe higher in protein.

My Dog eats cat food too lol. Coco should weight in at 12-14kg (vet told me this) & instead he's weighs 9kg.

Nope it definitely isn't anything to do with worms. He's all up to date on his wormer & I never use Pet Store wormers, only ones purchased & recommended by the Vet. Besides no worms in his bowel movements.

I've never heard of Quality Digestive Aides. I'm from UK so if this is US Food then it probably isn't here as I've tried the majority of tinned & some dried food.

What's the percentage of protein and fat,in yr food?.
Royal Canine has a high energy food for hyper active dog.It has a lot more calories per cup than Innova Evo(for the American). It's an orange bag.Maybe you should try it.You've obviously done all the tests. It can also be his young age and like agility said, some dogs will never put on,weight.
