doing the right thing

Sorry long post Not sure if this is the right place,it has to do with a dog that needs a better home.
Well heres my story,Me and my fiance we rescued a puppy feb3/2007(well found at side of road)my mother inlaw just phoned saying my brother inlaw is having problems with his dog Sheba(2year old rottie, husky, lab mix)sheba has been in the family since she was 4months old.
Heres my problem i have told my mother inlaw i would take Sheba and give her a good home but i havent talked about it with my fiance yet(he works out of town)should i have said i would take sheba? We had lived with Sheba for 1.5 years of her life before we moved out and i know she is a wonderful dog and she gets along with mine.
My bro inlaw is a great guy but his problems with Sheba are a cause from his laziness. He doesnt walk her the only exercise she gets is in the yard(which he doesnt clean).

In a relationship it's always nice to ask the partner before taking in such a big responsibility. If your partner is a dog lover he probably will not mind, but please give him the courtesy of a call and this way the two of you can decide together.

I would say it shouldn't be a problem since she has lived with you before as long as you have the means to look after her for her whole life then it should be fine JMO.

I think you should have talked with your fiance about it. When you adopt an animal, everybody should really be on board because if something of their's gets ruined they will blame you and say 'I never wanted a dog to begin with'.

As far as Sheba moving in with you, I think it should be fine. Dogs adapt to each other and if they've hung out and lived together before, that's even better that they have a history.

Yeah I think it is a big enough decision that you should have discussed it first and made the decision together.
I think the way out of it for you is to say it is temporary until you can find a better home for Sheba than she had at your BIL and maybe it will work out that you can both keep her but I would be prepared for your fiance to be upset.

I know he doesnt have a problem with it we were going to take sheba with us when we moved out but moving is expensive and couldnt do it then.We are both now very finacially able to care for my house full of animals and getting another dog would be wonderful(since we were planning on it anyway).Iam just waiting to hear back about her and if his bro still wont care for her.

I think it would have been a nice gesture to ask him. If he feels off because you didn't you can just say you were doing this for HIS mom!
If you have been part of Sheeba's life thus far and she gets along with your puppy I say go for it.

Another Edmontonian... Welcome to PDGS.

A lot depends on your partner. Since it's his family, I would think he would be tickled pink that you are coming to the rescue.

I would love to see pictures of your gang. Who knows, maybe we'll run into each other at the dog parks.
