I posted in here a while back about my chihuahua, Mr.Pipples (better known as Pippy), who had caught Parvo. He was treated by the vet and released and so was my female chihuahua who also caught it. They've both been doin' great and have went to the vet twice since then for the check ups and etc. from where they had the Parvovirus! My female who had had it, didn't have any problems after she was released and has been doin great now for almost 3 weeks. About 3-4 days ago she came down with diarrhea. Pip came down with it a week after he was released and was taken back to the vet, which she said it was typical for them from where their just gettin' the virus out of their system. Anyways...she now, 3 weeks later has came down with the dirrhea, has had it for again 3-4 days. Wasn't bad at first but now it's almost just pure watery like. She's eatin' fine and drinkin' water, basically her eating habits haven't changed from it. She has though had tons of gas which stinks really bad. I also noticed tonight right before posting was that on her lips it's starting to turn a pink color. I figured it was just something on them so I tried to rub it off, and came to the conclusion that it was her skin..like it was raw. She has been paying tons of attention to the area around her butt and constantly licking it. My guess is where she's been having diarrhea lately. Around her butt area is red, like it's sore. I plan on callin' the vet first thing in the morning about this since I'm starting to worry, but wanted to post here while I wait till morning comes to see what you all think might be wrong? I posted some of her pics so you can see the pinkish area around her lips and **** area. Also to note, so far there hasn't been any blood to my knowledge...the diarrhea is though like real dark chocolate looking.
And I just wanted to through this in so you all could see what she looked like actually. ![]() [ March 28, 2004, 09:12 PM: Message edited by: Mr.Pipples ] |

My bulldog wa sup with diarhhea 2 weeks ago and her **** area was so red that it actually started to bleed a little. He was having diarrhea for 4days then and it was very watery with a bit of clear slime to it. The vet told us to put him on a strict chicken and rice diet since his stomach probably could not handle the fat content of his dog food. What i remember was that he squeezed the anus to the point that alot of oil came out and if i could remember, he said that was the reason why the anus was swelling, his oil glands was just full of oil. It was painful for him but needless to say, after all the oil that came out, malone seemed to have felt much better and his anus soon started to heal. I have no idea if this has any connection to your prob but just wanted to pitch in on my thoughts. I hope she does well soon!

Hi Mr Pipples, nice to hear from you again, your baby is so cute, poor little darling, she looks very, very sore. Now I'm no vet here, but I would guess that she has licked her rear end and got a few germs onto her mouth, I would thouroughly rinse her face with an antiseptic solution, being careful not to get it in any orifices, then rinse with a salt water solution and pat dry.
Don't give her anything else to eat till you get to the vets, wash her rear end the same way, just test the solution a little first, cause it may sting too much, make sure it is well diluted, make sure you pat dry, what you want is to kill the germs and heal, then try to stop her from licking the area, she will make it worse. |

Thank Ya So Much Ellierat! I'm gonna go do that as soon as I post this! I've been worried sick about her since this just isn't like her. Yeah she's had diarrhea before, but what dog hasn't, but her diarrhea usually had only last not even a day. I'm callin the vet here in the next two hours. They'll be open then. If you remember I had the post a while back mainly about Pip, the one who had caught parvo first, well here's a pic of him now, all healthy and goin' strong!
And Here Is A Pic of the one who didn't make it. My lil baby!

Ellierat, I just got done cleaning her like you had suggested and took some pics of her mouth and rear end area of her now. You can see a lot better in these pics since these were taken in daylight.
And here's a pic of her currently...you can tell by the pic she's not feeling good, she looks so grumpy.

Hi Mr Pipples,
Of course I remember Pippy, you just brought the biggest smile to my face, he looks so happy, I'm so glad he made it, guess all our prayers and help worked. I wondered where you were as we hadn't seen you on the forum for a while, glad your back, please keep me posted on your little girl, and you can wash her like I suggested a few times, the salt will dry it up and heal it. Still looks swollen and sore, and I can see her mouth clearly now, hope all goes well at the vets. see ya. Sue. |

I'm BACK! The trip to the vet didn't really take that long, just sittin there waitin' for them to call us back. Kammie was really impatient. LOL!!! It ended up the vet said that what she is guessing, since there is no vomitting just diarrhea, was that she got a hold of something that did not agree with her system at all, which caused an infection in her large intestine. She is on 3 different medications for about a week. She is on:
Animax Ointment - Which is for the rear end area where it has become inflammed swollen and infected. Should ease the pain and heal it faster the vet said. Metronidazole Tab - Which is an antibiotic to kill the infection that she has. Prednisone - Which is to control and slow down the diarrhea. Kammie really didn't like having to take the two pills, would spit them back out. Any other suggestions on we should give them to her? With Pippy when he was on Prednisone after he was released from having Parvo, he took it just like that, no problem at all. But Kammie, well totally different! I will post back here in about a day or so on her progression and new pics of her. Thank-You to all who helped me out, especially you Ellie-Rat. |

Your welcome with the help, glad she is goin to be o.k.
You must be feeling all pilled out at the moment, giving my lot pills is easy, I just wrap them in a slice of cheese, throw it in the air and they catch and swallow, typical Labs.lol. You may find it easier to break the pill into halves or quarters, depending on their size, put it as far back on her tongue as you can reach without actually choking her, keep her head tilted backwards, close her mouth then gently stroke her under her neck to make her swallow, letting her head down as you do, do it as fast as you can though, before she realizes what you are actually doing. |
