What Breed Could My New Foster Pup Be?

This little cutie came to us from a very nice young couple who knew nothing about dogs and wanted to rehome him. He cried all day when they were gone and probably drove their appartment neighbors bonkers! My dogs are taking the whining quite well - they're so tolerant, thank goodness!
They said he was about 4 mos old, we don't think he's but 8-10 weeks old. He still has thin needle sharp nails & puppy breath. They were vague about what breeds he might be & said maybe chow mix based on the fuzzy hair, sounded like a pure guess on their part. There's no dark markings on the tongue either. I have a couple of ideas but would like to know what you all think he might be mixed with??? Thanks! (please excuse the "kibble" in pix #4, the photo otherwise was too cute not to add )

Looks like there is Collie to me, and if you just take the face of the second picture, that looks like a golden smile.

No chow at all.

Ahh. I never thought about collie... There are an aweful lot of border collie in the mixed breeds around here. I thought, yellow lab or golden but then was trying to figure out his ears & tail. One thought I had was Akita??? I'm sure he's got the variety of mixes in him.. just tryin to figure out the dominant lines.
He's also WHINER in the crate. He did good last night but during the day.. forget about it. Constant!!! Anyone have any help to offer with curbing this??? I've already done the ignore, put him in, let him out after a brief time, doing that back & forth.
He wants to run crazy with my pack. I don't want to do that all the time either cuz he bites all over them. He's soooo rambunctious (sp?) He also does it when alone so seperation doesn't make any difference right now Gonna be a long couple of weeks or so at this rate. I'd like to get it under control so he's not a return for driving new adopters nuts hehehe puppies!

I was thinking collie/lab or collie/golden. Looks a little small to be an Akita... perhaps some Shiba Inu though if you don't agree with collie/lab/golden - Shiba could also describe the tail curl.

Thanks everyone for your feedback - I knew I could depend on you!! Collie & either Lab or GR it is . We were trying to figure out how to post him on Petfinder..
Also, he's starting to settle into this "crate" thing whew . I figure he would... it was WHEN there for a minute hehe. Don't think he'll be around except long enough to be altered.. He's adorable & fun already..
