age limit : (

I just found a cavalier king charles on petfinder at a shelter near where I live. He sounds very sweet and it says he likes other dogs which obviously is important since he will be a friend for whiskey.... it has been my dream to own a CKCS (I LOVE THEM) and we are in the process of buying a house with a yard so it would be perfect for whiskey and him. the only porblem is that you have to be 21 to adopt and my boyfriend just turned 20 and I am 19! I am angered and sad

That's crazy. Age has very little to do with responsibility especially when you are only talking a year or two.

well i just called actually and she said they will take our "maturity" into consideration... but since I'm sure he will be very popular they will most like give him to more "qualified" people but I'm turning in an app anyway...

At 18 you are old enough to be drafted(if they did) and die for your country but that doesn't make you old enough to adopt a dog. Sorry at 18 you are a legal adult.

21 is just weird, here you have some legal rights at 18(you can smoke and sihn goverment documents..thats about it), but you dont have full legal rights till your 19, you have be 19 to drink, adopt a pet, check into a hotel etc.. if you lived where I live you would have complete and full legal rights to adopt.

That's stupid....21 to adopt?? If society can consider you an adult, there's no reason you cannot adopt a dog. I understand the whole screening process, but age should not be a factor!!
My husband and I once tried to rent a hotel room for a night, and they said we had to be 21!! Hello...We're married, live on our own and are completely capable of making decisions, so why can't we rent a hotel room for one night?!?!
*shakes head* I don't understand some policies...
