Low Thyrod?

My sister is looking into getting a rescue sheltie. It has low thyrod problems and I was just wondering about that. What is it and how do we treat it? I'm sure the people that rescued him from the humane soc. can tell her about it but I was just wondering.

Oh, he's about 7-8 years old.

My sisters dog just got diagnosed for thyroid a week or so ago. Basiclly it can make them heavy or thin depending on which way the thyroid is swinging (1 or the other- not both). It causes listliness and can cause all sorts of other problems.
Good news is: the meds for sis' dog is $22 per 2 months supply. So $11 a month, very reasonable. He's been on them just over a week and there's already a huge difference!
Best of luck!

She got him on Friday night and he's such a great dog.

I had missunderstood her, she said that the rescue people just wanted her to have him tested for thyriod...we don't know that he has it and I don't think he really follows any of the symptoms.

He's SUCH a great dog! He's BEAUTIFUL too! The people said that when they got him from the pound they had to shave his legs because he was all matted. They also said that he was over weight. He's the perfect size now.

He's a little shy and he is scared of everything but I think he's going to be the perfect dog for her! He is really attached to her already!

AND, the best thing is...he barks REALLY loud whenever anyone shows up at the door which is TOTALLY awesome because now she has a gaurd dog!
