Our vet has just told just she thinks our 8 1/2 yr old german sheperd man has Degenerative Neuropathy but all i can find is degenerative Myelopathy and not able to find a good site to really learn what we can do or the out come of it. I wasnt able to speak to the vet for very long today but she gave me prenisolone for him... any information??

I had a shepherd with muscular myopathy. It looked like the muscles in her head were disappearing. When she opened her mouth wide, her eyes sank into her head. Eventually it looked like she had lock jaw.

She had two courses of treatment and we then decided we would not continue treatment after the last remission only lasted 4 months.

I have heard that some dogs have full remission.

I've found some articles regarding human degenerative neuropathy in regards to diabetes.
In dogs I've found Sensory, Femoral, Peripheral, etc.

Here is a website with GSD: It lists tests and looks quite informative.

I hope this helps:
http://www.mzjf.com/test.html

If not here is the google search I did, you can look further:

Good luck and I'll be thinking about you!

I am guessing it is DM (aka CDRM) which a genetic issue in gsds. I am very sorry for you and your much loved gsd. I can recommend some good reading on the subject such as this Fred Lanting's article: http://siriusdog.com/articles/degene...hepherd-dm.htm
