Arrow Dog Constipation - Advice or Tips??

Hi everyone. My rott, TANK, has become pretty constipated. I've already scheduled a vet appointment for him tomorrow, but i was wondering if anyone here could give me any tips, so he can have a little relief tonite.

I gave him some canned pumpkin this morning, but he threw that up. I tried googling Dog Constipation, but i didn't find too many useful tips. This site mentions you can give him Grape-Nuts Flakes. Do you think that's true? safe? Would it help? Someone else mentioned to me that you can give him a prune or two, and that would also 'flush' him out pretty quickly. But I am hesitant too, because I don't want to hurt him in any way.

If anyone could give me any constipation relief tips, suggestions or advice, it would be really appreciated. It would help him be comfortable thru the nite. Thank you.

Hi Freebird-

How's TANK doing? A vet once told me that pumpkin works the best, but you can also give a dog prunes. I've never tried it, so I don't know how well it works. I've also heard you can give him a couple tablespoons of milk. AND/OR mix in a very little olive oil. He's a Rott, so he's pretty big. So he could probably handle a tablespoon or so of olive oil. Once again, I've never tried these, only heard about them.

Did you try surfing around on that Dog Constipation site? I was looking around on it and found an article about Constipation in Dogs. It was pretty interesting. I'm sure you found it, but I figured I would point it out to you anyways.

The best advice you're going to get from anyone, is to take TANK to the vet as soon as you can. It could be something worse then Constipation and some of these home remedies could actually do further damage, if its something more dangerous.

Good luck to you and TAnk. Keep us updated.
