Nobody wants me..
I sent out letters and applications to be a foster mom...and nobody has gotten back to me, NOT ONE PERSON.
All I want to do is help....

How long has it been? Sometimes it takes a while. Be patient.

I'm sure somebody will get back to you! Foster homes are always needed, I'm sure they are just really busy! I know it must be upsetting, but give it a couple days

Patience, patience. I just recently started. In my quest to get info on the different rescues, I realized it takes some time to get things done. Most are all volunteered by people to have full time jobs for the most or sometimes all of the people.
I've given my rescue group the name of a gal who I think might be great but they haven't contacted her yet either. Once in, you may realize just how time consuming it can be. It just depends on who you foster for. Please do not give up. Fosters are in demand and always needed. The more fosters available, the less pets that will go homeless or end up pts at the shelters! Really, we keep them until a good home for that particular dog comes along. I've realized sometimes they go quickly on to their new homes and sometimes, they are with you for some time! In the time I've given a couple of mine (and continue to) they may not have survived a shelter situation's time line??? There is a right home for every dog and a right dog for every home! |

Know what? When I wanted to get involved with rescue, I applied with the local dachshund rescue, beucase we had a dachshund...they never replied back to me either, I had hurt feelings.
So, I applied on Petfinder that I would be a volunteer if anyone needed any help. Another rescue contacted me and I started working with them, fostering dachshunds only even though they were a mixed breed group. That's where I got my feet wet, so to speak. So, I learned how to set up transports from that group, I gained some knowledge on shelter pulls, etc. I started to build my own database on other dachsie rescues, divided them by state in groups and started to network. Look at what's in the shelter, contact rescues, see if you can help with transports, etc. Join some "boards". People get to know you when you help them and aren't even affiliated with a group but help just because you want to help the dog! Soon enough, just about every one knows your name...then when I finally decided it was time to join a "dachsie only group", the other groups said "they" (meaning the group I did join) "are lucky to have you." That was really nice to hear. Then, to think back on the group who didn't even respond to my application in the beginning... .Just start helping on your own...or sign up with Petfinder. |

most of the rescues are all volunteer, and it can take a while for them to get back to you, so don't give up yet.
