Looking for a dog....
Well, I'm 14 years old, so I don't have a whole lot of say in my pets, but, after much annoying my mom, I have finally convinced her to get me another dog! We have one dog, who is a 6y/o rescued Golden Retriever/Lab mix. He is the sweetest dog in the world! He is super playful though, and really wants a friend. We recently got a new dog, but he attacked strangers and wasnt house trained after 8 months! So, we unfortunately had to give him away (to a VERY good home, dont worry!). Anyway, after that experience, my mom is not too thrilled about the idea of a new dog, so she said that it has to be
So, if anyone knows where I can find a house trained, and people friendly golden retreiver, please let me know! We are willing to rescue, or get something from a reputable breeder somewhere, and we are willing to travel to get it. We live in Oklahoma. I would appreciate if it wasn't just some website you randomly find, because I really want to get one from someone who I know has a good reputation. Thanks in advance!!! |

You aren't willing to adopt from a shelter? Because if you use petfinder.com(which is a very reputable site that many shelters and rescuers use) it lists probably around 100 golden retrievers in shelters in the state of oklahoma and several 100 more in nearby states. If you go to a good shelter they should be able to tell you something of the dog's temperament and if it's housebroken. Then if the dog doesn't work out you can return it to the shelter instead of having to find another home for it yourself. Petfinder also has classified ads which are posted by individuals needing to rehome their pets and all ads are screened to be as reliable as possible.

I am absolutely willing to adopt from a shelter!!! Thanks for the website, I'll try it out. To clear things up, I'd love to adopt from a shelter, I just have to convince my mom that the dog will be pleasant!!! Thanks again!

Where in Oklahoma are you? I live just north of Tulsa and can give you some names of good rescue organizations in Tulsa. You can PM me if you don't want to post your location in the thread.

I'm in Oklahoma as well and I was going to suggest sgrr too but shanniesue beat me too it.
A lot of their dogs are kept in foster homes so they will be housetrained already and their foster families can tell you all about their personalities.
