Brown Westies? ;)
Is it possible to keep Westies white? No matter how often I bathe my girls, they find something to get into. Any advice on fighting the stain?

I don't know how I manage to keep my coton white... most of the time. His coat is so fine and white, and he's always in some sort of dirt. No advice, I'm just here to relate.

Daisy always digs in the dirt in spring and we always bath her after. If it's just her paws we rinse them thoroughly inthe sink. If it's her whole body we wash her with dog shampoo and it works. uhh...just keep bathing and hope for the best? lol i dno

I have an American Eskimo/sheltie and she always stays so white! My parents and I always wonder why since she does play hard in the yard. I was reading up on Eskies and found out that their coat naturally repels dirt and other foreign matter. I thought that was so cool! My dog really does stay cleaner then other dogs.... Anyways, when I do bathe her I use a whitening shampoo. Works well, just don't leave it on to long or you end up with a blue dog! My friend who has a Westie gets its belly hair trimmed pretty short since its a family dog and not a show dog. Her dog stays alot cleaned since its hair isn't dragging the ground. Good luck!

Quite simply you either have to bathe more often, not a great idea, or keep your dog out of the dirt.
If kept inside you shouldn't have too much of a problem. Yes you can purchase shampoos that will make them white, but unless it is natural stuff I would not do it to my dogs. It is just par of the course of owning a small, fluffy, white dog. |

When I saw the title of this thread I thought "Westies don't come in brown!" But if you just can't win the fight with the dirt, you can see how many other people know that.
I mean, come on, what's so special about a white Westie. But if you walk around with a brown Westie, then you have something special.

When white dogs come into my shop looking more brown or yellow tinted than white, I use a deep purple color based shampoo made especially for white dogs . . . The deep color in the shampoo almost counteracts all the staining. Do NOT worry it wont turn your dog purple, you just have to rinse very carefully because it takes longer to rinse out. Try Coat calrifying 15:1 Concentrate or I like Bio-Groom super-white color enhancer. available in 16 oz.-1 gal. @ almost any online grooming supplier.

oops . . . or you could just stick to Rio-Vista products supplied by Pro-Dog. Sorry Moderators, didn't realize I wasnt allowed to suggest. Just so you know, I dont sell for anyone, I am just a humble groomer
. Won't happen again!
