Any reason why my puppy keeps eating poop in the yard? Also my son works and doctors cattle on a ranch and when his boots are sitting outside she will lick the cow poop off his boots. It is so gross and I keep trying to make her stop but she keeps doing it. Any ideas as to why she is doing this. She has an appointment with the vet on Saturday so I'm sure he can tell me but was wondering if any other dogs do this.

It seems that some dogs just do this. My girl Maia, a lab mix, started doing that in the winter-it is so gross. And she doesn't care whose poop it is! When she does her business, I have to scoop it up as soon as I can, or else she'll beat me to it, and it will be gone. The minute she's finished, she turns around so fast, and that's that! I haven't had any success finding something she doesn't like-she'll eat anything! Anyway, try to keep the yard as clean as you can. Maybe you will have better luck than I have!
Hugs! Kathy and Maia |

Hudson did that when he was a puppie, and just to spite me if he couldnt get at his, then he would go and find "cookies" in the cat little box...
It should end soon, dont worry too much about it, as gross as it is, it is normal and belive it or not a lot of animals do it...it is there way of getting all of the nutrition out of what they eat....kind of the same thing as when a cow chews her cud!!!

Sadie did this as a puppy, it was disgusting, they said you could put something in the food to make the poop "taste bad", no comment. She loved the cat box, hubby used to call them almond rochas......ewwwww

I didn't realize that most do this. It is so funny because I'll be chasing her around the yard saying "spit that out" I bet my neighbors get a big hoot out of that. What is bad is she is always wanting to give me kisses and I've been spatting her nose and telling her "NO". Such a loving little thing she only wants to share I guess

Uma did it a few times which totally grossed me out. Sorry to say that now that she is older I wish she woould eat her poop and my other two dogs stuff too! It sure would make my yard look and smell better!.....but seriously...your dog will outgrow this.

You can try to teach the word "leave it" but you must be consitant. Eating poop is gross but normal most times.
