Question How Much Is A Meal?

Just wondering what you thought....For a approx 1.5 lbs 9 week old yorkie pup who needs to eat every 3-4 hours due to hypoglycemia, how much eating would constitute a meal to you?? a Teaspoon? Tablespoon? 6-7 kibbles? (is kibbles a word?? sounds funny) I give nutrical too so I am just curious if I am trying to over feed cuz Im so scared he will have a sugar drop. I find myself with food in his face constantly cuz he only ate 7 kibble an hour ago, but maybe that 7 kibble is plenty. Just want to hear what ya think. Thanks all! Hope ur all having a good day!

I'd say just take how much he should eat all day and divide it by however many times you feed him per day. If a cup of is food is 250 ml, and a tablspoon is 15 ml, if it were my feeding my 17 lb dog 4 times a day, he would eat 2 tablespoons at each meal.

A 1.5 lb puppy should probably eat the amount that a 3-4 lb adult would eat. Read the back of the bag and do some math. If you count by kibble, I don't think that's a very constant number to go by.

I agree! split the amount it calls on the bag into 4 meals. If EVO is what you are going to go with usually I would suggest starting with less but considering your problem use the guide on the bag to direct you in the right direction.

That is what I was told to do with my pups (Shih-Tzu's) and I believe the same goes for pretty much all toy breed pups. I just free feed, however, I do clean out the bowl daily and toss out anyfood left, ususally there is not much however.

To be honest I wouldn't leave the food down in this case. If she is already feeding every 3-4 hours then feeding 4-5 times a day split meals then IMO will do much better in this situation. Leaving food down all day just IMO causes picky eating. With the Innova EVO should regulate and should have no problems with the split meals.

Talking

Is IMO another kind of food? Sorry Im a newbie at the newer dog foods. I have always did Nutro and plain Innova. So I think your saying with him getting on the EVO.....that should do the trick and no need to supplement or split meals? Just let him free feed, or still do the 3-4 hours thing.? IM BUGGIN lol

You may not (I'm guessing not ) Have to supplement but I would keep honey in the house just in case and ask the vet about the meter to check daily to make sure it doesn't go low. I say 4 split meals will do the trick this food EVO is very rich with no grains, real meats, veggies, fruits raw in a kibble.

IMO= In My Opinion

I would not free feed in this situation.

First of all Bellas Mom has 2 dogs, one of which is a puppy, so I do not think they are eating the same formulas. Second, because the puppy is hypoglycemic, if the dog went and ate all the food that was out in one sitting just because hoggy puppies are like that --- it wouldn't do him any good.
