Glucose in urine
Hi everyone,
I'm doing this post because I am a bit concerned. My Dog (Coco) has been having rapid weight loss and I had to get a 2nd opinion at a new vet because my other Vet wanted me to put him down. If you look at the post "bad news for coco" then all the info is there. Anyway this morning the vet performed a urine test on Coco and it showed up Glucose in his urine. Because of this the Vet checked his levels with a gucose monitor and thankfully this was well within normal limits. I asked him does this indicate Diabetes and he said its possible but his monitor reading is normal and his last blood test for Diabetes was also normal. What else can glucose in his urine indicate? The vet is looking into pancreas, bowel and digestive problems but I wont get his results back until early next week. Im just being a worried mum at the moment. Thanks. |

I had almost the same thing happen to Dusty. She was drinking water like she was dying of thrust, then she started to pee in the house. (she has never done this). We made an appointment with her vet the day after she peed in the house. He did a complete CBC on her, which came back her glucose level was over 400. So she is diabetic. He immediately put her on insulin injections. Dusty had this same test done in January before her surgery, that one was normal. I couldn't believe how quick this happened. We waited about 2 hours to get the test results. Maybe you should ask your vet to do a CBC, which is a blood test. My personal opinion is that this is much more accurate than a urine test.
By the way, Dusty is almost 10. Best of luck to Coco and you. Please let us know any updates. |

It could be renal glycosuria. It is a form of kidney disease.

Hi everyone and thank you for your help. I called the vet earlier and thankfully Coco's glucose blood test result has came in and its normal. So he isn't Diabetic. Phew.
Coco does have low protein which showed up in his last blood test and mild Liver damage. Hes only 3 and a half. The Vet is checking for infection and parasites, bowel disease and digestive problems and hes also doing the usual CBC, thyroid and so on. I wont get the results until next week though. Thank you again x |
